Repairing a Damaged Benchtop Without Replacing the Kitchen

Sometimes it's not the whole kitchen that needs updating.

For Karen, the cabinetry was still in good condition, but the laminate benchtop had seen better days. Burn marks, holes and everyday wear had taken their toll, making the kitchen feel tired and neglected.

Rather than replacing the entire benchtop, kitchen resurfacing provided a fast, cost-effective solution that restored the surface and gave the kitchen a fresh new look in just one day.

While it's hard to see in the photos, the benchtop had damage in multiple locations that were easily noticed in real life.

Location: Currumbin Waters, Gold Coast

Clients: Karen

Service: Kitchen benchtop resurfacing

Timeline: 1 day

A run in with a hot pan

Karen was preparing the property to be rented and wanted an affordable way to improve the kitchen without investing in a full renovation.

The existing laminate benchtop had burn marks and holes that couldn't simply be cleaned away. While the damage was noticeable, replacing the benchtop would have been far more expensive than the project required.

The priority was finding a solution that looked great, fit the budget and could be completed quickly.

Before Resurfacing the Kitchen, where the bench surrounding the stove had some burn marks

Before the laminate countertop had damage and there was a feature tile on the splashback.

After the splashback is a uniform white with a stone-look grey applied to the laminate, after conducting repairs.

After: We repaired the damaged benchtop before we resurfaced it in a stone-look finish, which ties into the charcoal-toned floor.

The Solution

Before any resurfacing began, we repaired the damaged sections of the benchtop using our specialised waterproof resin system.

Once the repairs were complete, we applied our professional resurfacing system to create a smooth, durable finish across the entire benchtop.

Instead of replacing the surface, we restored it, giving the kitchen a clean, refreshed appearance while saving both time and money.

A Simple Project with Minimal Disruption

The resurfacing was completed while the owners continued living on the property.

Fortunately, they had a granny flat available, allowing them to comfortably use that space while we completed the work.

With the project taking just one day, disruption was minimal and they could continue with their plans to rent the house quickly.

As with every resurfacing project, careful preparation was key to achieving a professional finish. Protecting the surrounding kitchen before work began ensured the resurfacing process was completed cleanly and efficiently.

The Results

The damaged benchtop now has a completely new lease on life.

Instead of looking worn and neglected, the kitchen feels fresh, clean and ready for new tenants, all without the cost of replacement.

For Karen, one of the biggest highlights was how affordable the transformation was.

"Love our new kitchen!! We would highly recommend this company to anyone who wants an instant refresh. Very professional, fast and such a great job. And not to mention the price, that also was amazing. Couldn't be happier."

Kitchen benchtop resurfacing is an excellent option when the rest of your kitchen is still functional but the work surfaces are letting the space down. With the right repairs and preparation, even damaged laminate benchtops can be transformed into something you'll be proud to show off.
